Water Spitters

Picture

What Is It?
Water spitters are a fun enhancement for ponds and even waterfalls, as they spout a steady stream of water that adds excitement and circulation to your pond. Some are even comical---such as the peeing doggy or the crazy leg frog.

What are the sizes? Dimensions on spitters vary depending on the style--some are as small as 8" wide and 4" tall while others are a few feet tall and a foot wide! One of the popular spitters is the Man in the Barrel or the lazy frog on a lily pad. Aquascapes carries a few different styles of spitters, such as a bamboo water pump, a crane, toucan, and even an alligator.

Who Would Love It?
If you have a pond, you will love this enhancement--they're cute and they add extra sound movement.  Our water spitters even add extra circulation to stagnant areas (eliminating mosquito breeding grounds), churning up the water and adding some extra aeration through permeation.

How Much Maintenance Is Involved? Maintenance for our water spitters is one of the lowest since all you have to do is make sure the pump is running! Spitters generally operate on their own pump and are not stand alone systems.

Where Could I Put One In My Yard? Spitter work the best near pond's edge, by the waterfall or even in the middle of the pond. Spitters also work great in Patio Ponds to serve as circulation to an otherwise stagnant body of water.Retail Center

Why Would I Want One? The more circulation and aeration to the pond the better and with the variety of styles and sizes, there is something for everyone!
How Can I Get One? Simple...call us to get started on personalizing your pond with a water spitter!

Backyard Fish for Sale in Lebanon, PA : The Golden Orfe

The Golden Orfe’s beauty and fun personality is definitely an attractive reason to add them to your watergarden but their impact on insect control (water quality) is equally or more important. Yes, they eat fish food, BUT they also eat insects-- YUM!

Long and slender, the Golden Orfe is a deep bodied fish that can get 20” or so in length and can weigh up to 4 pounds. They are a very solid looking fish when mature. Their color is a golden orange mix, but can also appear yellowish and even pale pink.

Golden Orfe Habitats

In the right environment, a Golden Orfe can live 20 years or more in captivity. The Orfe is definitely better kept in larger ponds, ideally over 800 gallons and they do like a lot of oxygen so a pond or water garden with a waterfall and a supplemental air station would be well suited for keeping them.In larger ponds, they like to be in schools and are best displayed that way since they like to constantly swim just under the surface of the water. They move grouped together and rarely will break away solitary.

Koi, goldfish, Pond Sharks and Orfe all co-exist swimmingly and the Orfe is not an aggressive fish unless it’s mating season (March through June). Their courtship involves aggressive behavior which is normal; so if you see a lot of sudden chasing and splashing, that’s probably what’s going on. Fall/Winter care for the Golden Orfe is the same as koi and goldfish but stay up-to-date on our recommendations for "Life Supports" to make sure your fish are smiling at you come spring time.

Fish Pond Installation in Pottstown, Pennsylvania; PA

7/17/2017

A pile of rocks and a pile of dirt. The beginning stages of building a waterfeature often look like a mess of a tetris puzzle.

But no worries for this family in Pottstown, PA because this 2017 waterfeature installation was all wrapped up in just a few days.

Fish Pond Specifications:

This backyard started with raised beds for gardening and a small leaking "frog pond" that not only measured less than a 8'x8' area and lacked filtration but also happened to sit over 40' from where the family generally spends their time relaxing on the deck. The homeowner wanted to upgrade and upgrade he did.
Two streams/waterfalls spill into this pond. Having upgraded the original "frog pond" to hold water and look more natural with rocks, one beautiful cascading waterfall runs 35 feet long and is designed to connect the original "frog pond" to the new larger pond installation nestled at the bottom of the hill next to the deck. This waterfall also had a flagstone bridge across the center of it.  The the second waterfall is 6 feet long with awesome boulder work and is the filtration for the pond, complete with bio-media for bacteria colonization and an  Aquascape, Inc. IonGen System that controls string algae.

The fish pond portion of the waterfeature measures 20'x25' by 2.5' deep and approximately 3500 gallons operating with a Tsrumi 9PL pump that pushes about 7000 gallons of water per hour. Imagine the beautiful sound produced by a pump that size!  When talking fish, this backyard pond can sustain a total of 350 inches of fish which is really cool because the Dreamscapes team installed two flatter boulders in the pond for the family to sit on and stick their feet in the water.
Our favorite part about this waterfeature installation project is the before and after photo! Seeing a backyard go from raised beds to a beautiful ecosystem because of dreams we helped come true always amazes us.

Spillway Bowl Fountain Installation in Lebanon, PA

7/10/2017

Picture
One of the newest waterfeature options that is becoming more popular are Aquascape's Spill Way Bowls because they fit EVERYWHERE: front yard, backyard, side yard and even as an enhancement to an existing waterfeatures.

A woman in Lebanon Pa had the Dreamscapes team install the above set of Spillway Bowls as a birthday present for her partner in early Fall of 2016. Having wanted a waterfeature option that was unique but had minimal maintenance to fit their busy life, the Aquascape Spillway Bowls fit perfectly in their landscaping. Better yet, they added a underwater light kit to the bowls so that they can enjoy them in the evening hours after work.

Maintenance on a Spillway Bowl

The maintenance on an Aquascape Spillway Bowl Fountain is minimal since there are no fish creating waste and you don't have to worry about the water levels. The weekly addition of algaecides and beneficial bacteria water treatments keep the water crystal clear and is safe for any animals, like dogs, that might drink from the water.

Seasonal Care

Shutting the Spillway Bowls down for the season is as simple as draining the water out, pull the pump (store it inside in a bucket of water) and covering the bowls. We recommend using a round fire-pit bowl cover. Tadah--all done!

Who would love them?

Everyone! Whether they're stand alone or integrated inside of an existing backyard koi pond, these unique pieces add some extra flare with less than a day to install. Simple enough to install but brings instant gratification.

Controlling String Algae in my Backyard Fish Pond

7/3/2017

String Algae-- every pond owner's worst nightmare. If you have sun and you have water, inevitably you will get algae--right? Balancing pond water comes down to understanding your waterfeature and it's needs--from the magic number of fish and plants to correctly following weekly maintenance tips. Sometimes, though, when full sun is the reigning champion and Mother Nature can't help but gift you the repetitive string algae as a pond accessory, it's less frustrating and more efficient to let someone (or in this case, something) handle the string algae mess for you.4

For more information about string algae specifically, read our blog. For information about a device designed to take care of string algae on its own, read on...

Aquascape Ion Gen System

Picture

The Aquascape Ion Gen System is an electronic water clarifier for ponds, pondless waterfalls, and decorative water features. Dreamscapes has been selling and installing the Ion Gen electronic water clarifier since 2009 with great results in string algae control, improved water clarity, and reduced maintenance. These machines work incredible in full sun applications where algae can be a battle.

How does the Ion Gen System work?

Ion Gen system consists of 2 basic components:  the control panel and a replaceable copper probe. The control panel needs to be protected from the elements during the season and removed in the Fall once the plants start dying back. We recommend a faux rock cover for the control panel.  The copper probe can be installed in-line in the plumbing or dangling in the skimmer box, if present.

You do not operate the system UNLESS string algae is present in Spring/Summer. Once the unit is plugged in, the Ion Gen control panel sends a signal to the replaceable copper probe which then releases a controlled amount of copper ions into the path of flowing water. The “controlled amount of copper ions” is determined by you on the control panel and based upon the severity of the string algae growth currently present in the waterfeature.  The copper ions released by the probe dramatically reduce string algae, improve water clarity, reduce maintenance, and reduce the need for algaecides.
