Q: Aren't watergardens high maintenance often taking several hours a week to maintain?
A: The answer to this question is no. Many people do not realize that if they work with nature and not against it their watergardening experience can be greatly simplified. By having proper filtration (plants, fish, rocks and gravel) one can have a watergarden that only needs to be maintained five minutes every other week.

Q: Are watergardens expensive to maintain each year?
A: Although there is some expense in maintaining a pond, it will cost you less money to maintain the same area that is planted in grass. You must realize that your pond becomes a natural ecosystem that is self-sustaining.

Q: How many fish can I put in my pond?
A: Try to restrict fish quantities to a maximum of 1 inch of fish for every 7 gallons of water. Remember Koi do not grow to their environment. Even if Koi are in a small pond they can still exceed 2-feet in length.

Q: Can I put other critters in my pond?
A: Yes, we at DreamScapes recommend that you do introduce things like freshwater mussels, crayfish, frogs, water bugs, ect. If you have any questions about the introduction of certain critters into your pond, please contact us.

Q: Are smaller ponds easier to take care of?
A: No, actually ponds that are smaller in size are a lot harder to take care of. The reason for this is throughout a 24-hour span, a small pond will fluctuate more in temperature. This stresses out your fish and sends your pH levels in complete disarray. These sudden temperature fluctuations will also make it harder for you to control the algea-ridden pea soup green water.
